If there’s one constant we can count on in the business world, it’s change.

Something new is always coming down the pipeline, and 2020 promises to be no different. At Labor Solutions, we want to keep you up-to-date on the latest business trends. Since the best way to adapt to change is to anticipate it, here is our rundown of the top employment trends that will influence 2020.

  • Sense of Purpose
Although employers could see workers from up to five generations (the Silent Generation, [born between roughly 1927-1945], Baby Boomers [1946-64], Generation X [1965-79], Millennials [1980-94], and Generation Z [1995-2015]), the group projected to have the greatest influence on the workplace dynamic is the Millennials. Unlike generations who came before, who were largely concerned with compensation and benefits, Millennials are drawn to employers who can offer them a sense of belonging, or how they fit into the “big picture” of your organization. If this is not something you’ve considered, now is the time to give it some thought.
  • Telepresence
Data shows that as many as 4.7 million American workers clock in from home at least part of the time. While telepresence can offer advantages to employers and employees alike, there is a unique set of challenges that go along with it. If this is an area you are considering, make sure your data security covers remote work, and consider investing in a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for telepresence work.
  • Automation With Artificial Intelligence
We’ve seen robotics and computers taking over simpler tasks for years now, from machines along assembly lines, to the self check-out at the grocery store, and even chat-bots built into most websites and company phone lines to respond to basic questions. Contrary to popular belief, however, this has not caused a decrease in the workforce. Rather, machines are taking over the more mundane aspects of work, and the human workforce is seeing a focus on creativity and problem-solving skills that the computer logic just cannot grasp. So while investing in technology is a good idea, don’t think that a computer will fully replace a person.
