A lot of people are heading back to work these days, and many of them will be starting new jobs. Labor Solutions is helping folks just like you get into great positions with outstanding local companies, and we want each and every one of our workers to succeed. It’s perfectly normal to have some jitters on your first day, so we came up with some ideas to help you adjust to a new routine.

Adjusting to a New Job
Whether it’s your first job ever, or just a new phase in your career, starting a new job can produce some anxiety. Get ready with these tips from Labor Solutions.

  • Tie up any loose ends. You want to start your new job with as little stress as possible from your personal life. Before your first day, try to take care of any errands, appointments, or other concerns that might require you to take time off of work.
  • Know what you’re getting into. If you haven’t done so already, research the company you will be working for to get a feel for their culture. A website like Glassdoor can be a good resource for finding out what it’s really like to work there.
  • Focus on your first impression. You only get one shot at a first impression, so make it count. Show up early, well dressed, with an enthusiastic attitude. Stay off of your personal phone and make it a point to start learning people’s names.
  • Set some goals. Think about what you would like to accomplish in your new role, and set a timeline for achieving your aims.
  • Be friendly, but avoid gossip. Get to know your coworkers, but don’t engage in negative talk about anyone.
  • Ask for feedback. After your first 30 days, request an informal evaluation from your supervisor to get an idea of how well you’ve adapted and what areas you need to improve in.
